Foraging walk with elements of fermenting.

This is a great opportunity to attend foraging walk and learn the basics of fermenting.

We’ll meet in the morning and will have a short introduction.

Lower Marsh Farm is a foraging gem when it comes to wild edibles. We will walk around ancient woodland, discover what’s growing on a meadow and we will explore salt marsh on a private Nature Reserve.

Our main ingredient during the workshop will be wild garlic, which is one of the most abundant wild foods in UK.

Wild garlic is a truly idyllic culinary treat and has been used in the kitchen for centuries.

As the season for wild garlic is so short it’s great to know how to preserve it for further months.

During this courseyou’re going to learn how to make lacto fermented wild garlic. We’ll go through step-by-step process and everyone will take samples home. Please bring a small jar with you.

The process we teach you can be used to ferment other vegetables too, so this skill will give you long-term benefits.

Lower Marsh Farm

Lower Marsh Farm, Landulph, is set within an Area of Outstanding National Beauty on the River Tamar. A former Duchy of Cornwall renowned daffodil farm, Lower Marsh Farm is on the outskirts of the pretty village of Landulph benefiting from the secluded feel of being a million miles from City life but with the convenience of being striking distance of modern amenities.

Here there are private woodlands for walks, an orchard with a hammock for relaxing and admiring the view, picnic areas, a tennis court, a hot tub for relaxing, and our own Salt Marsh Nature Reserve that borders Lake Kingsmill on the River Tamar. Take a short walk down to the waterfront during low tide to enjoy the private shingle beach. For families with young children, there are play areas, woodland dens and space to roam. Dogs are very welcome too!

The magical Nature Reserve is rare salt marsh habitat and boasts an interesting array of flora and fauna. With herons, buzzards, egrets, kingfishers, pheasants, owls and bats galore, Lower Marsh Farms offers you over 40 acres of opportunities for rambling, bird watching, or just enjoying the peace and quiet of the Cornish countryside. The farm is managed in a gentle and environmentally friendly manner.
